Farmers’ Market Vendor Admission Criteria

The Desnedé Farmers’ Market Objectives are:

  1. To support economic diversity and encourage small business,

  2. To facilitate the local market,

  3. To support and advocate for the development of healthy and local food systems.

To do that, the founding board created a set of bylaws. Here are the rules for admission as a vendor:

  • Only approved products that are locally made, baked, grown, or harvested by the vendor can be sold, displayed, or advertised at the market.

  • The sale of items grown or produced by anyone other than the vendor is reserved primarily for items otherwise not available from other vendors at the market and is only permitted by special provision.

  • Such items must be approved by the Board and listed on the Vendor Application in advance of selling at the market. These items must be labeled with their originating producer. 

  • All products for sale at the Desnedé Farmers’ Market must be pre-approved by the Board and should fit within the DFM objectives of healthy and local food & supporting and encouraging small business.

  • Products need to fit into the following categories: 

    • Agricultural: Agricultural products are grown, foraged, harvested, or produced by the vendor and include, but are not limited to: fruit, vegetables, fresh and dried herbs, plants, shrubs, trees, flowers, honey, syrup, meat, cheese, fish, eggs, etc. 

    • Processed Products: Processed products are produced by the vendor (using local ingredients where possible) and include, but are not limited to: prepared packaged meals, preserves, sauces, vinegar, soap, dried soup and other mixes, sausage, processed meat, baked products such as bread, muffins, cookies, pies, cakes, pastries, etc. 

    • Food Concession: Includes ready-to-eat items for consumption at the Market. 

    • Arts & Crafts Products: Must be hand-made by the vendor using his or her own skill, artistry, and training to produce a new, unique and original product. A vendor belongs in the Arts & Craft category if they sell less than 50% food products.
